Our Story

In Memory of Colin

We’re sad to announce that our dear friend and tasting room associate/groundskeeper, Colin passed away suddenly last month. He was a good friend of the winery’s founder George Hanson and worked for Seven Stones for many years until just before his passing.

As somewhat of a renaissance man, Colin had many interests. His joy of gardening kept the grounds of Seven Stones looking pristine. He also loved people and they adored him. So he enjoyed working in the tasting room where he was always happy to chat and tell some jokes while pouring samplings of wine. He especially enjoyed practicing his French with French-speaking guests. He was known to be a fountain of knowledge about books, music, and flowers and was famous for his wonderful marmalade.

Colin also had an appreciation for great wine and was not only very knowledgeable about the wines of Seven Stones but also of other locally produced wines. Furthermore, he recognized artistic talent and was a great supporter of local artists and musicians.

Colin was truly a remarkable man and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, dear friend

Check out this video to see how we harvest by using a  handy machine that makes destemming grapes so much faster.  It's sure more efficient than doing it by hand!

Remembering Our Founder

George Hanson
George Hanson was a well-loved member of the Similkameen community, having made an impact in the BC wine industry with his high-quality red wines and vibrant personality. Making wine was his greatest passion and it showed in the quality of his product. He took great pride in his wines and making blends is where his creativity shined.

George was an interesting character who loved to interact with the winery’s patrons during their visits. He particularly loved hosting epic winemaker’s dinners in the caves throughout the summer. These popular events would include great food, wine and George’s stories of his experiences growing and making wine. He would also treat all the guests to a tour of the wine cellar where he’d proudly share the details of how the caves were built.
George was often heard saying, “I feel very fortunate to be living my dream where work seems somewhat like play.”
Sadly, George died from a sudden heart attack in his home on the evening of Sunday, February 7th, 2021 at the age of 63.
